Family Ministries at St. James

At St. James, we value and nurture the lives of children ages 4 – 5th Grade (and their parents) in this busy world. Through building community, encouraging relationships, and strengthening their beliefs in Christ, we aim to partner with families to create disciples for generations to come.

Children’s Chapel

Each Sunday during the 10:30 service, children ages 4 through 3rd Grade are encouraged to join with one another before the Gospel reading across the breezeway in the parish hall for Children’s Chapel, returning at the passing of the peace. This time is devoted exclusively to engaging with God on their level – through song, lesson, and play. We aim to follow the Revised Common Lectionary to best allow parents and children to engage in conversation about scripture with one another.

Weekly emails are also provided to families with the upcoming Sunday’s lesson; including a link to the scripture passage being taught, conversation starters, and fun activities to do at home. To sign up – click here!

Family Ministry Events

Scattered throughout the year, these special events are held specifically with families in mind. Craft nights, meals, movie nights, all of these (and more) are possibilities for exciting functions to bring families together in fellowship and community.

Acolytes

Children in grades 4 & 5 are invited to become Acolytes (torchbearers) for Sunday services. Acolytes play a crucial role in improving the beauty of the service, and by becoming an acolyte share a role in the service which has been a part of the church for centuries. For more information on becoming an acolyte, contact Thomas Johnson, Lay Ministry Coordinator.

Children at St. James look forward to summer every year – not simply because school is out, but because of the annual celebration of St. James Art Camp VBS! Started in 2011, Art Camp VBS has had over 120 children participate for the past two years!
